Dear Convenience Stores

Dear Convenience Stores,

Please consider this letter your notice that I can no longer continue our relationship.

Thank you for all the ways you’ve enriched my life over these 30 years. You added entertainment to my small-town life. Outings to you provided excuses to spend time with friends and my dad. You gave me a destination for bike rides and walks, a treat after difficult days at school, a source of goodies for parties that never materialized, a sense of independence in spending my little earnings, and a colossal fuck you to my mother’s no-sweets-in-the-house philosophy.

You’ve become costly to my health and my wallet. I think about you in every transition to and from work. I want you out of my mind. I want your goods out of my belly. I want my cash back in my wallet. I will find other companionship and nourishment.

Sincerely,

Kate
